According to the Census Bureau's 2015 American Community Survey,  the City of Garland ranks 12th in population in Texas and 91st in the country. The City of Garland population estimate for 2017, is 237,607 persons.

Much of Garland's population growth occurred during the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, and has slowed as undeveloped land becomes more scarce and Garland approaches buildout. Garland grew 5.1 percent between the 2000 and 2010 Census.
