High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation program
The High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation program — formerly known as GED preparation — provides individuals with the knowledge and skills needed to pass the HSE test with flying colors.
HSE classes will develop your skills in five key areas:
- Social Studies
The cost to take either the HiSET or GED test is not covered through this preparatory program and must be paid by the student. However, some local community organizations offer free GED testing, including the Dallas Public Library. Free testing facilities typically require instructor or organizational referral and proof of test preparation course completion. WorkReadyU program instructors and career navigators can help connect you to an approved testing site when you’re ready.
English as a Second Language (ESL)
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program helps adult learners improve their language and communication skills with help from passionate instructors — at no cost.
Speak and Be Heard
The ESL program focuses on conversational English, grammar, reading, listening, comprehension, writing and vocabulary. You’ll enjoy small class sizes and a personalized approach to learning based on your abilities, interests and needs.

In our career pathway and transition classes, you’ll develop workplace and college readiness skills and receive hands-on training in your chosen field. Training is available in health care, manufacturing, technology, education and more. Books and other course materials are provided.
